Canada’s Captain! What an inspirational story from an awesome young man. I feel very fortunate to have Tyler McGregor on this episode today, a hockey player that at the age of 15 faced the fight of his life, being diagnosed with spindle cell sarcoma (bone cancer). Through support from family, friends and his sure determination Tyler won his fight but it came at the cost of his leg. Tyler shares his hockey journey from being an OHL prospect in his draft year to becoming an amputee at the age of 16. He was faced with a decision, let his situation control him or control his situation and as you will see in this conversation Tyler chose the later and found his way back on the ice, trading his skates in for a sledge. Through hard work and focus Tyler became a member of Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team, eventually being named team captain. Tyler shares some touching stories from his cancer diagnosis, losing his dream of being drafted and playing in the OHL, the mental ups and downs he went through, finding a new passion and achieving his goal of representing his country on Canada’s Paralympic Team. This is an unreal story of perseverance with a ton of great advice and insight for parents, players and coaches battling their way through their hockey journey. We hope you enjoy the episode!
