Follow your Dreams! It was an absolute pleasure to chat with Bulbul Kartanbay, she’s not only the first female hockey player from Kazakhstan to play in the National Women’s Hockey League, she’s an entrepreneur, a coach and a trailblazer for young female athletes worldwide, especially in her home country. Bulbul has an amazing hockey journey but the real inspiration shines through with her will to follow her dreams, she learned a foreign sport, broke cultural barriers with women in sport in her country and followed her dreams to one day play professional women’s hockey. Bulbul shared her path to the NWHL, beginning hockey at the age of 13 in Kazakhstan, representing her country’s National Women’s Hockey Team at the age of 17, being drafted to the Canadian Women’s Hockey League and finally playing for the Metropolitan Riveters in the NWHL. Bulbul has played in over 30 games for the Kazakh women’s national team which she eventually captained. Bulbul shares some very insightful stories, from moving to a foreign country, learning a new language, putting in the work to develop her hockey skill and knowledge. This a great story for players looking for motivation to follow their dreams and put the work in to achieve them. This was an awesome conversation with a talented and inspirational leader in women’s sports. We hope you enjoy the episode!
