3 Player Shooting to 2v1 Drill Progression: CHALK TALK

Hey everybody, Dwayne Blais here from NSDA. I have a cool hockey drill to show you. This drill is easy, quick and has two parts. It starts as a shooting practice, which is great to get your goaltender warmed up and many players moving at the same time, and then progresses into a 2v1.

First, we have players stand on the red lines on each side. The idea is to have the first three players start the drill. They will move and shoot based on a pattern around the faceoff dots. This keeps things easy for the goaltender because all shots come from one side, not back and forth. It helps the players too because they just follow simple rules, moving and touching dots in a pattern.

Then, the drill changes into a 2v1 without needing to set up anything new. In this part, the players will do something similar but with a little change. They will now work together, passing and shooting, making it more challenging and fun. This 2v1 part is where things get interesting because players have to think more and work together to make the right plays against the goaltender.

The goal is to make the practice fun and useful, and not waste your ice time having to move cones around and set up new drills. You start with simple shooting to warm up, and then it turns into a 2v1 game that helps players get better at making quick decisions on the ice. So, go ahead, try this drill in your practice, spend about 10-15 minutes, and see how it works. Let me know what you think!
